How to choose the shell material of solar wall lamp

Solar wall lights have gradually become a popular lighting choice in the market due to their environmental and energy-saving characteristics. When designing and manufacturing solar wall lights, the choice of shell material is crucial because it not only affects the appearance of the product, but is also directly related to its durability, performance and service life.

Diversity of Shell Materials
The shell materials of solar wall lights mainly include plastics, metals (such as aluminum alloys and stainless steel), glass, and composite materials. Each material has unique advantages and disadvantages and is suitable for different application scenarios and needs.
Plastic is the most common shell material in solar wall lights, mainly including polycarbonate (PC), polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). The lightness, low cost and easy molding of plastics have made it a place in the market. However, its weather resistance and UV resistance are relatively weak. To improve durability, choosing high-strength and UV-resistant plastics is an effective solution.
Aluminum alloys are widely used in high-end solar wall lights due to their light weight, excellent corrosion resistance and excellent heat dissipation performance. Aluminum alloy shells can effectively resist the invasion of rain and humid environments, while maintaining good performance under high temperature conditions, thereby extending the service life of the lamps.
Stainless steel is particularly suitable for use in marine environments or high humidity areas due to its high corrosion and oxidation resistance. Despite its high cost, stainless steel's superior durability and aesthetics make it an ideal choice for high-end solar wall lights.
Glass is used as a shade material in some high-end solar wall lights. Tempered glass not only effectively protects internal components, but also provides better light transmittance, thereby improving lighting effects. However, due to the brittleness of glass, its impact resistance is poor, so special considerations need to be taken when designing.
Composite materials combine the advantages of multiple materials and usually have better strength and weather resistance, which can provide greater flexibility in design and are suitable for solar wall lights with specific needs.

The importance of weather resistance and waterproof performance
Solar wall lights are usually installed outdoors and face the test of various weather conditions, so the weather resistance and waterproof performance of the shell material are important considerations for selection.
Weather resistance refers to the ability of the shell material to resist erosion by natural environments such as ultraviolet rays, rain, and wind and sand. Plastic materials perform poorly in this regard and are prone to aging when exposed to sunlight for a long time, so it is particularly important to choose plastic or metal materials that have been treated with UV protection.
Waterproof performance is closely related to the sealing design of the shell. Whether it is plastic, metal or glass material, it must ensure good sealing to prevent moisture from invading the internal components. Choosing materials and designs with a waterproof rating (such as IP65 or higher) can effectively extend the service life of the solar wall light.
